Unintended Consequences

The Alliance Defending Freedom has put together a great video showing the unintended consequences of allowing anyone claiming to be gender dysphoric free access to public restrooms. It’s called The Unintended Victims of Bathroom Bills and Locker Room Policies

After watching the video you can learn more at Safe Bathrooms and from my paper Educating Myself: Gender Dysphoria and Public Bathrooms.

The God Caricature

A caricature is an inaccurate depiction of, usually, a person where some parts are exaggerated, and some parts are understated, or sometimes deemphasized or ignored. It is, in reality, a false image. This is the view many people have of God. Read more...

Stop Using the Word Homophobe

Stop using the word homophobia. It’s offensive. It implies an irrational fear, which very few people have. Most people who oppose homosexuality have good reasons for doing so; there’s nothing irrational about it. Calling someone a homophobe in response to someone’s argument is like responding by calling them ass hole. That’s not a counter-argument; it’s name-calling. And did I mention offensive?

Yeah, I know there are a few people that are actually homophobic, but they’re few and far between, and to use it for every person that is anti-gay is foolish and inaccurate. Did I mention offensive?

When one person calls another person a homophobe, I feel like the targeted person would be correct to respond with dumb ass.

Yes! Calling someone a HOMOPHOBE is OFFENSIVE!

Ad Blocking: A Dark Cloud Well-Deserved

Other publishers are appealing to their readers’ sense of fairness and justice, asking them to turn off their blockers and reminding them they are a critical part of the ecosystem that has powered the internet for the past 20 years. Without ads, there would be no free content online1.

Most users don’t care about ads, BUT…

  • We don’t want to be tracked. Do you care?

  • We don’t want pop up ads. Do you care?

  • We don’t want auto-play video ads. Do you care?

We’ve complained for years, but you didn’t listen. You cared more about your bottom line than your readers. Now that tools are available, and becoming more mainstream, you want to appeal to our “sense of fairness and justice.”

The problem here is we, the readers, are fed up with the intrusive, and abusive, nature of advertising. It’s going to be pretty tough to appeal to our sense of fairness and justice when we don’t trust you, and have every reason not to. You haven’t used any sense of fairness and justice, why should we?

There's No Such Thing As A Homosexual Human Being

Non-vegan Expectations

If non-vegan restaurants are expected to make accommodations for vegan diets, can I expect a vegan restaurant to make accommodations for non-vegans?

“I’m an omnivore, I don’t eat tofu. Can I get chicken instead?”

Modern Sound of Silence

I heard Simon & Garfunkle’s song Sounds of Silence on the radio today. In my mind, I replaced one of the lines with the following:

And the people bowed and prayed

To the rainbow God they made

The Folly of Indolence

Proverbs 6:6-11 (NKJV):

Go to the ant, you sluggard!

Consider her ways and be wise,

Which, having no captain,

Overseer or ruler,

Provides her supplies in the summer,

And gathers her food in the harvest.

How long will you slumber, O sluggard?

When will you rise from your sleep?

A little sleep, a little slumber,

A little folding of the hands to sleep—

So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler,

And your need like an armed man.

Indolence
Habitual laziness; sloth.
